Daily Prayer

In a world where entitlement is pervasive, and happiness is an objective, Father secure my eyes upon You.  For it is through imploding plans and serial struggles that we are afforded unique opportunities to magnify your character.  In all the areas, I wrestle; Jesus prepare me to be a good steward of your name.  I constantly fall short of standards for approval born of this world, leaving me vulnerable to comparison that is void of joy, but full of condemnation.  You look upon me with affectionate eyes laced with grace, not seeking superior performance, but a surrendered heart.  Allow me to rest, not in my critical view nor the criterion of this world,  but in the secure shelter of your abundant mercy and amazing grace.  Amen.

Embracing Who We Are

As a woman, growing in grace means when someone gives us a compliment, we do not dismiss it.  We do not begin to tell them why we do not look pretty, do not have a nice smile, are not a good cook, do not have a kind heart, have not lost weight, are not good at…Grace enables us to embrace the compliment with a humble, soft, “thank you.”  Then we allow those words to settle into our souls and realize, yes, I am those things because that is how God created me.  Sure we have moments when we do not like ourselves; everyone does.  Those moments, however, should be fleeting.  We become who we think we are, so we must allow ourselves to be a friend’s compliment!  This is one of the hardest things to do for all of us, but let’s change that today! May we all be humbly adorned in the unique gifts God placed within each of us today, and all days ahead!

ISIS, Ebola, Enterovirus, missing airliners, mystery stomach bug…Lord each day we wake to new seeds of fear being planted by news outlets, and subsequently spread through social media. These worries and concerns become fertilizers for growth of fear in our concerned and protective hearts. Assist us in finding that healthy space of being informed but not infiltrated, because this world is too heavy for us, but not for you. When we allow information to become infatuation, remind us Father that it is rooted in an unbelief of your sovereignty. You are surprised by nothing, and never caught off guard. Give us the grace to place our world and loved ones in your capable hands, and not our controlling ones. I ask that you continue to gaze upon our country, other countries and all those we love with merciful eyes. May we all be missionaries of peace graced with the message of faith in the midst of so much worldly fear.
